New learning occurs everyday and most times it is when we least expect it. In order to develop ourselves it is important to challenge ourselves. I have decided to take on an NLP or New Learning Project. My NLP topic is creating cake with fondant frosting using only online resources, videos, and blogs. The blogger's picture below gives me a good goal to keep in mind for my finished project.
Brown, & Cocking (2004) explain how outcomes of learning can increase when students are given ample opportunities to engage in a deep experience with particular content. Also, there is more understanding when they are able to "make their thinking visible" (p. 24). I am using this learning strategy during my NLP. I will utilize visual online resources and networks to give me ideas and help me build my understanding.
Fondant is a pliable frosting that is used to decorate cakes. It is often used in bakeries and on the Food Network Channel. I have been researching different recipes to create fondant along with utilizing social media sites for ideas. The twitter hashtag #fondantcake has given me great visuals for what my cake should look like. I have also been trying to locate the tools to make the frosting so I do not have to purchase them.
I have included the step by step recipe video along with a completed fondant cake below. The video is informative but could include more details. It breaks down how to create fondant. Another online resource that has been helpful during this learning process is Pinterest. I am able to simply search "fondant cake recipe" and tons of resources pop up. Click the button below to check out the awesome recipe that has helped me learn how to create my NLP.
